Lorenzo: Fourth all we achieve

Jorge Lorenzo battled bronchitis throughout the weekend at the Circuit of the Americas with the changeable conditions making things very difficult for the Spaniard. With rain and cold cooler conditions on Sunday giving way to a warm and humid Saturday to a scorching race day Lorenzo commented that because of the conditions it was impossible for him get any more than fourth.

“For one reason or another the conditions were not very favorable for me,” said Lorenzo. “I could be close, but not so much here, the winner of the race, so that when they get the best circumstances for me I think they take advantage.”

When the weather conditions were combined with a tyre that had to be conserved throughout the race Lorenzo’s crew also made a change on Sunday to try and aid tyre conservation but also cost him grip.

“We tried to modify the setting, to put more front weight to save more tire life, and to avoid the graining. I think it helped the life, because I didn’t have so many problems as I expected on the right, but for the opposite, we lose traction in most of the corners, and probably with less weight on the rear we lose traction.

“Also it was hotter, and everyone goes slower than in practice and I was ill. I was not good. I struggle so much to keep a constant pace and to stay closer to the front guys. I fight a lot in not very good conditions, and we take home, not a splendid result, but it could be much worse.”
