Hernandez and Vinales through to QP2

Yonny Hernandez and Maverick Vinales moved through to QP2 but Scott Redding once again was caught out in the opening session and finished fourth fastest.

The softer tyres available the rest of the QP1 runners puts Redding at a disadvantage in the qualifying shootout and with a margin of 0.066s to Vinales it’s clear just how difficult it is for Redding. The softer tyre is worth only a marginal gain at the Sachsenring but it’s enough to leave Redding 14th on the grid for tomorrow’s race.

Eugene Laverty and Michael Laverty will race against each other for the first time since 2009 and they’ll start at the back of the field in 23rd and 24th on the grid.
