Folger wins at Jerez and regains title lead

Jonas Folger was in complete control at Jerez as the German ran away from the field in the closing laps of the Moto3 race. Having stood on the podium at Jerez for the last two years his success validated his Qatar victory and showed that he’ll be a contender throughout the season for the Moto2 title.

World champion Tito Rabat had his strongest race of the year but the home favourite had no answers for Folger once the German hit the front. Rabat was struggling in the closing stages with a lack of rear grip Alex Rins started to put him under increased pressure during the final laps. On the final lap Rins darted down the inside under braking at the last corner and he lost the rear end and clipped the rear wheel of Rabat.

Having been delayed by Rins it opened the door for Zarco to overtake Rabat  with the pair touching on the exit of the corner. Despite claiming his second win of the season Folger was only able to jump to second in the championship with Zarco leading by 16 points with Rins now 24 points adrift.

Sam Lowes, who qualified on the second row, had a disastrous day and finished up outside the points and falls to sixth in the championship standings.
