Honda kept their powder dry on the opening day of the Aragon Grand Prix by not using fresh medium tyres in the closing stages of the day but in FP3 the RC213v machines showed their pace with Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa leading the way. Valentino Rossi was third fastest ahead of Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Iannone.

Cal Crutchlow was sixth fastest and is automatically through to the Q2 showdown where he will be joined by compatriot Bradley Smith. Scott Redding was the rider to miss out on Q2 and finished 12th and will need to take part in Q1 alongside the Ducati’s of Andrea Dovizioso, Yonny Hernandez and Danilo Petrucci.

Nicky Hayden was an impressive 14th with the American battling a fractured thumb.
