Repsol Honda have confirmed that Dani Pedrosa will remain with the Repsol Honda team for a further two years, despite widespread media rumours that the Spaniard would leave that he end of the season for the Movistar Yamaha team.

Pedrosa was widely expected to make the Yamaha switch after reports that Maverick Viñales was set to remain with the Suzuki team for the next two years, but it’s believed that a last-minute push from HRC to retain his services was successful.

Speaking after the announcement ahead of this weekend’s race in Mugello, the three-time world champion says he’s pleased to have been given their trust.

“I’m very happy to be able to announce my renewal with the Repsol Honda Team. I’m very grateful to Honda for the trust they’ve shown in renewing with me for an additional two years. I think it’s best for me to continue with the company I was with at my very first race. I’m happy that the negotiations have been quick, and now I can just focus on racing. I want to give 100% this weekend at the Italian GP.”
