Moto3: McPhee set for BT Sport Honda team?

1 of 1

Rumours in the Moto3 paddock have continued to gather steam that Czech Grand Prix winner John McPhee will link up with British broadcaster BT Sport to ride a Honda under the channel’s colours in the 2017 Moto3 championship.

The rumours would see McPhee running the channel’s colours as part of a one-rider team, potentially running factory-supported Hondas.

Speculated at for a number of weeks, the move would bring BT Sport in line with other major broadcasters Sky in Italy and Movistar in Spain, who sponsor Valentino Rossi’s Moto3 team and the factory Yamaha MotoGP squad respectively.

McPhee has remained tight-lipped about his plans for the future, but speaking to sources within the paddock, MCN has been led to believe that plans for the squad are now at an advanced stage – and could be confirmed before the season is over.

However, they rely on the future of MotoGP’s UK coverage with BT Sports, as the channel is also currently locked in negotiations with organisers Dorna about extending their current five-year contract, now in it’s third year, beyond 2019.
