Moto2: Kent to return in 2018 with Speed Up

2015 Moto3 world champion Danny Kent will return to the Moto2 world championship in 2018, after signing a two-year deal to join the Speed Up squad in the middleweight class.

Kent has been without a ride since splitting with his world championship-winning Kiefer Racing team only three rounds into 2017, spending the season since wildcarding and deputising for injured riders, including at this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix team in place of Marcel Schrotter at the Dynavolt Intact squad.

However, with the signing of the new deal, he’ll be back in the series permanently from next year (on the fourth different chassis he will have rode the series after racing Kalex, Tech 3 and Suter in the past) – and says he can’t wait to get going.

“I’m really excited about this new opportunity with Speed Up and I can’t wait to get on the bike. I’d like to thank Luca and all the team for their belief in me, I’m working hard towards the end of season tests and already excited for 2018!

“This weekend I’m replacing Marcel Schrotter which will be good to get some time back on the Moto2 bike. I’d also like to thank Alpinestars and Nolan for their support. 2017 has been tough but it had made me even more determined for the future.”
