MotoGP: Ducati roll out radical aero fairing

1 of 2

Ducati have finally rolled out their much anticipated winglet-replacing new aerodynamic fairing, with the radical new look taking to the track at tonight’s Qatar test in the hands of yesterday’s fastest man Andrea Dovizioso.

Expected to follow a similar route to that of Yamaha, who skirted new rules banning winglets by incorporating them into a ‘second skin’ fairing, Ducati instead have went for a radically different approach, using an extreme version of the concept first tested by Suzuki last month in Phillip Island.

While winglets were banned at the end of the 2016 season, it was widely acknowledged that the aerodynamic genie was firmly out of the bottle, and with Ducati Corse boss Gigi Dall’Igna a big believer in the concept, their new concept was always expected to be radical.

New signing and former world champion Jorge Lorenzo has yet to test the new fairing, but with a full day of testing left before the first round in two weeks’ time at the Losail circuit, there’s plenty of time yet for him to trial it.
