MotoGP: Viñales leads Yamaha whitewash at Qatar

1 of 1

Maverick Viñales has led a Yamaha whitewash of the time sheets on the second day of testing at Qatar, blitzing both the lap record and Andrea Dovizioso’s fastest time from yesterday to finish ahead of teammate Valentino Rossi and satellite rider Jonas Folger.

Viñales ended the day with a 1:54.455 lap despite cooler conditions, a dirtier track and spits of rain throughout, 0.277 faster than Rossi, who admitted that they made a big step forwards with the bike after struggling yesterday.

Jonas Folger was one of a number of impressive rides on the second day of the test, finishing third overall and only 0.185 behind Rossi.

Cal Crutchlow was fourth, continuing to make progress on the LCR Honda despite the recurring electrical issue that plagued him yesterday continuing to slow them, and with a crash coming right at the end of the day for the Brit.

Aleix Espargaró was an equally impressive fifth on the Aprilia, giving the Italian firm one of their best positions to date since their return to MotoGP ahead of Marc Marquez, Alvaro Bautista and Jorge Lorenzo.
