MotoGP: Dovizioso pips Crutchlow to top spot by 0.005

Andrea Dovizioso took control in this afternoon’s second MotoGP practice at Silverstone to pip home hero Cal Crutchlow to the top spot by just 0.005 seconds.

Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez, who had languished in tenth after a crash in the morning’s opening session, initially led the way, but Dovizioso charged up the timesheets to initially match Marquez’ time before further improving to sit 0.7 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

The Ducati’s buffer wouldn’t last for long with a quick lap for Crutchlow moving the LCR Honda rider up to second, missing the top spot by 0.005 sec with Vinales also improving to be within 0.061 of the top as Yamaha continue to enjoy a stronger showing.

Marquez ended the session fourth quickest ahead of the second Ducati of Lorenzo with Jack Miller rounding out the top six.

Johann Zarco outpaced factory Yamaha Valentino Rossi for seventh place while Andrea Iannone and Alvaro Bautista rounded out the top ten.

Bradley Smith dropped back to 17th on the Red Bull KTM with Scott Redding 20th for Aprilia in what will be a final home Grand Prix in the premier class for the British duo.
