Moto2: Marquez the fastest at home in Jerez

1 of 1

Alex Marquez has topped the first day of action at the Spanish Grand Prix, ending the opening sessions at Jerez a quarter of a second clear of the Italian duo of Lorenzo Baldassarri and Francesco Bagnaia.

The Marc VDS Kalex racer got his weekend off to a good start with his return to the circuit where he took victory twelve months ago, upping the pace considerably in the second free practice session to end the day well clear.

Sam Lowes continued his slow return to form in the Moto2 class in fourth at a track where he too has enjoyed success in the past, ahead of rookie Romano Fenati and fellow KTM rider Brad Binder. Joan Mir, Mattia Pasini, Miguel Olivera and Iker Lecuona rounded out the top ten while Danny Kent came home in 15th.
