Niccolo Antonelli has topped the opening day of Moto3 action at the French Grand Prix, ending the combined free practice sessions a mere 0.048 ahead of an impressive ride from Kaito Toba, Enea Bastianini and Tony Arbolino to make it a Honda top four.

Marco Bezzecchi was the first of the KTM machines in fifth, ahead of championship rivals Aron Canet, Fabio Di Giannantonio and Jorge Martin, still recovering from injuries sustained last time out when he was among the three riders knocked off by Canet in the Spanish Grand Prix.

Jerez race winner Philipp Oettl was ninth, while Andrea Migno rounded out the top ten. The class’s sole British rider John McPhee was back in 19th.
