MotoGP: Ducati top opening day at Red Bull Ring

1 of 1

The factory Ducati pair of Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Iannone have dominated the opening day of action at the Red Bull Ring, clearing off as predicted to leave next best man Maverick Viñales nearly a second off Dovi’s time.

The Suzuki man was 0.866 behind Dovizioso, with Iannone only 0.2 behind his teammate at the end of the day, while Valentino Rossi and Cal Crutchlow were best Yamaha and Honda respectively in fourth and fifth.

Ducatis dominated the top ten, with Petrucci sixth and Barbera seventh, ahead of Jorge Lorenzo, struggling with colder track temperatures, while wildcard Michele Pirro and Marc Marquez rounded out the top ten.

With cold track temperatures affecting this morning’s session, a number of riders have been struggling with conditions including Dani Pedrosa, a distant 19th.
