Moto2: Nakagami tops tragedy-struck day

Takaaki Nakagami has topped the opening day of Moto2 action at Montmelò, finishing first in FP1 and sitting at the top of the time sheets when the red flags came out following Luis Salom’s tragic crash at turn twelve.

With only a handful of riders able to improve on the hot and slippery track from their first session times, the Japanese rider finished the day 0.1 ahead of reigning world champion Johann Zarco and Jonas Folger.

Alex Rins, title leader Sam Lowes and Lorenzo Baldassarri made up the provisional second row of the grid, while Morbidelli, Luthi, Luis Salom and Miguel Olivera made up the top ten. Danny Kent was 23rd.
