Japanese rider Takaaki Nakagami topped the opening day of moto2 action today at Sachsenring , despite low temperatures and the threat of rain seeing a somewhat slow start to the day’s action.
World champion Johann Zarco was the first man to get a lap on the board, but it was Nakagami able to finish the day 0.169 ahead of Franco Morbidelli on the Estrella Galicia 0,0 Kalex.
Local star Jonas Folger took third, while Zarco finished the day in fourth, just ahead of Brit Sam Lowes, who admitted to MCN afterwards that he was in no hurry to rush into the weekend in dodgy conditions.
Championship leader Alex Rins was seventh, separated from second-placed man Lowes by another of the German speakers on the grid, Thomas Luthi.
Simone Corsi, Lorenzo Baldassarri and Hafizh Syahrin rounded out the top ten, while Moto3 world champion Danny Kent was in 19th.
