Moto3: Bastianini tops opening day in Germany

Enea Bastianini has topped the opening day of Moto3 action at Germany’s Sachsenring circuit, by sticking in a lap late in the session to end the day 0.093 ahead of the Team Sky VR46 KTM duo of Romano Fenati and Nicolò Bulega on the Gresini Racing Honda.

Gabriel Rodrigo was a surprise fourth, ahead of title leader Brad Binder and Jules Danilo on the second Honda in the field. Andrea Locatelli and Juanfran Guevara rounded out the top eight.

Francisco Bagnaia was ninth on the Mahindra, with the winner last time out benefitting along with the rest of the riders on the Indian bike from a new gearbox.  Scotsman John McPhee was 13th on the Peugeot-branded Mahindra, just ahead of teammate Alexis Masbou.
