Moto2: Lowes looking to finish 2016 with a win

Sam Lowes says he’s out to finish his time in the Moto2 championship this weekend at Valencia with nothing less than a win, as he prepares to make the move full-time to MotoGP come Tuesday’s test.

Set to remain with the Gresini squad but moving within the team to the MotoGP project, he says that he wants to repay his crew with a win, especially after a difficult end to the 2016 season.

“The last race of the season is as always a special event and of course the target is to close the year with a good result. This weekend will be a bit sad for me because I will leave a fantastic team, it’s been incredible working with these guys. I’m still happy and proud to move to MotoGP remaining in the Gresini Racing family.

“After the long trip outside Europe I could finally spend some time at home to train and I feel recharged, relaxed and ready to battle. I can’t wait to get back on track in Valencia, where I’d like to finish the season with a victory.”

That sentiment is echoed by team boss Fausto Gresini, who admits that they need a positive result to prove their ability, both as rider and team.

“After a negative trip outside Europe we want to finish the season with a target in our mind: Sam is fifth in the Championship and we head to Valencia determined to defend this placement. We started the season with a different target, but too many mistakes didn’t allow us to be consistent enough to fight for the title. We take it as a lesson for the future, aware that the team lacks nothing to excel: we are a top team and in Valencia we want to prove it again.”
