Lee Johnston: 'I've been done over'

1 of 1

Lee Johnston has hit out after receiving a ten second penalty in today’s North West 200 Supersport race.

The diminutive Ulsterman ran on at Juniper chicane to avoid contact with Ian Hutchinson following a hard pass from the Yorkshireman. Losing two positions, Johnston re-joined the track but was then handed a time penalty, which ruled him out of the podium scrap.

Finishing sixth with the penalty, Johnston headed to race control immediately after the race and has since confirmed that his team will appeal the result.

“Ian was going for a pass and left me nowhere to go,” he said. “I had no option, so went through the chicane to avoid hitting him. You don’t have to stop at the end, there’s no one with a flag or a stop box. I slowed down to go through it, put my foot down before re-joining and lost two positions and a bit of time and then got handed a ten second time penalty so I think I’ve been a bit done over.”
