Roads: Michael Dunlop to miss Ulster Grand Prix

Published: 08 August 2018

Tyco BMW’s Michael Dunlop will miss this week’s Ulster Grand Prix races from Dundrod.

The six-time event winner failed to attend last night’s compulsory rider briefing, which was earmarked by organisers as the cut-off point for him to decide whether or not he would compete.

Michael’s brother William Dunlop was tragically killed last month in a crash during one of the practise sessions at the Skerries 100 races in Ireland.

Dunlop has enjoyed a successful 2018 roads campaign, with three more victories at the Isle of Man TT taking his tally of wins to 18 - making him the third most successful rider of the course of all time, behind John McGuinness on 23 and his uncle Joey Dunlop on 26.

The decision to not race means David Johnson will become the sole representative for the Tyco squad, competing on the carbon-framed BMW HP4 Race.
