HONDA BRITAIN has confirmed that it is entering John McGuinness and Karl Muggeridge in the 2002 World Supersport championship.

The switch is a dream come true for two-times TT winner McGuinness. The 27-year-old former bricklayer finished third in British Supersport last season, his first full year a four-stroke, and is under no illusions of the task ahead.

McGuinness said: ” Moving to the world stage is a big step but one I’m ready for. At the start of last season I felt like I was racing with a bunch of axe-murderers, but I got used to it and I’m expecting more of the same this season. ”

Muggeridge, 27, last rode for the team in the 1999 British championship. He finished fifth in the 2000 world series before making an unsuccessful move to Alstare Suzuki last year. He added: ” I’m convinced that this team can be world champions. ”

The announcement finally confirms that Honda Britain will have no official team in British championship racing.
