BSB regulars lead WSB qualifying practice

Shane Byrne has gone fastest in qualifying practice for Sundays WSB races at Brands Hatch. Sean Emmett and John Reynolds complete the provisional front row with Regis Laconi the only WSB regular on the front row.

HM Plant riders Toseland and Walker are fifth and sixth, in front of championship leader, factory Ducati rider Neil Hodgson in seventh.

Gregorio Lavilla was eighth quickest on the Alstare Suzuki, and behind him came the bruised figures of Pier-Francesco Chili and Ruben Xaus, who both fell during the session.

Xaus was an early casualty as he lost his factory Fila Ducati on the exit of Paddock Hill bend, running wide and onto the paint as he powered down the hill. He was not badly hurt, but had to return to the pits for his spare bike to continue the session.

Chili also came back to the pits with some scuffed leathers after he fell with just five minutes to go. The Italian was seventh fastest when he lost the bike exiting Graham Hill bend, eventually low-siding after fighting against a dramatic wobble. Chili was not hurt, but dropped to ninth by the end of the session, with Xaus in tenth. Regis Laconi ended the session with a stopped bike, but managed to hold onto fourth place.

The front runners have been swapping at the front of the leaderboard, with Reynolds, Hodgson, Lavilla and Byrne all heading the timesheets in the first 30 minutes.
