Toseland takes pole

James Toseland has taken a surprise pole position for the Misano round of the World Superbike championship.

The Brit had finished all the previous qualifying sessions in eighth place but put in an astonishing Superpole lap to take the front spot on the grid.

Troy Bayliss consistently held the fastest time throughout the weekend until the final free practice session where he slipped down the rankings then in superpole his lap was 0.7 seconds slower than Toseland dropping him down to seventh on the grid.

Second fastest lap went to Troy Corser with Andrew Pitt and Steve Martin finishing the front row.

Chris Walker took his Kawasaki to fifth followed by Noriyuki Haga, Bayliss and his team-mate Lorenzo Lanzi.
