Corona Extra has announced that their long term sponsorship of the Alstare Suzuki squad will finish at the end of the season.

Corona have been a sponsor of Alstare for ten years, which is far longer than either party ever expected and a lot longer than most sponsorship deals ever last.

Corona has also been the title sponsor of the World Superbike Championship for the last three years and like the sponsorship of the team this will come to an end this season.

MCN understands that the decision to quit the team and series is part of a gentleman’s agreement between beer manufacturers to end all forms of world wide motorsport sponsorship.

A statement from Alstare said:

“After ten years of outstanding collaboration benefiting all parties involved, Grupo Modelo and Corona Extra have decided to withdraw from the motorsport world for commercial reasons.”

“As a result, the contracts between Corona Extra and the World Superbike Championship and Team Alstare Suzuki will not be renewed for 2008.”

“Team Alstare Suzuki and their partners would like to thank Grupo Modelo and Corona Extra for their support, which helped Team Alstare to win many victories in the World Superbike, Supersport and European Championships.”

“They are also grateful for their assistance in promoting the development of the World Superbike Championship and increasing its popularity.”
