Brands Hatch World Superbikes: Troy Bayliss' party spoiling plans on track

Troy Bayliss’ plans to spoil James Toseland’s party at brands Hatch are on course so far after the Ducati Xerox rider pipped Toseland to top the times in the first free practice at Brands Hatch. 

The Australian knocked Hannspree Ten Kate Honda’s James Toseland off the top of the timesheets with just nine minutes of the session to go in th first World Superbikes session.

In an interview with MCN’s World Superbikes reporter, Michael Guy, earlier this week, Troy Bayliss said his aim was to spoil the party rather than necessarily win. And by knocking almost 0.04secs off Toseland’s time, he is doing just that.

Toseland had his mind firmly fixed on the weekend following the announcement of his move to MotoGP for 2008. The Sheffield rider finished the session with a best time of 1:26.7877 with five minutes to go. He had initially gone fastest with a 1:27.540 after just 10 minutes and held on to the fastest lap as he recorded a 1:27.251 followed by a 1:27.149.

Ruben Xaus was third quickest on his Ducati with a 1:27.206 with Michel Fabrizio setting a surprisingly good fourth at 1:27.517.

Yamaha’s Troy Corser was just 0.02secs behind Michel Fabrizio with a 1:27.532.
