Australian Troy Bayliss will begin tomorrow’s World Superbike races at Silverstone from pole position.

The Ducati rider, who has won just two races so far this season, snatched pole from Noriyuki Haga by nine 1000ths of a second.

Haga, who will start in second place, was the first of the fastest runners out on circuit and took provisional pole with his 1:24.577 along with the lap record, which Bayliss then beat.

Current championship leader and British hopeful, James Toseland, finished the session in third place on his CBR1000RR.

The Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider was glad to get on the front row with his 1:24.621 but is not looking forward to the strong possibility of a wet day tomorrow.

Rounding off the front row Lorenzo Lanzi who has been the surprise of the weekend so far. The Italian completed his lap in 1:24.810.

Max Neukirchner starts from the back row of the grid after crashing out in superpole at Copse corner. The German’s Suzuki GSX-R1000 K6 burst in to flames following the crash.
