Ruben Xaus signs for BMW

BMW have announced today that Spaniard Ruben Xaus has signed a contract to ride the all new S1000RR Superbike in World Superbike for 2009.

Xaus has signed a two year deal for the German manufacturer with the second rider expected to be announced within the next two months.

Xaus currently rides for the Sterilgarda Ducati team is scheduled to begin testing the new bike as soon as the 2008 season concludes and his contract with Sterilgarda ends.

BMW are mid way through a comprehensive testing schedule which has seen experienced Superbike and MotoGP men Jeremy McWilliams, Kevin Curtain and Steve Martin ride the bike.

Speaking to MCN Peter Mueller, Vice President Development and Modellines said: We are only announcing one rider today because the other possible one is still under contact.

“The first rider we want to announce is Ruben Xaus. He will ride our bike in the World Championship and has signed a contract for 2009 and 2010.

“We’ve signed him because he is strong, he is fast and he is competitive. He is also very enthusiastic and has a lot of passion.”
