Kiyonari back on WP suspension at Donington

Following an announcement on Friday that the Ten Kate Honda team will use Ohlins suspension for the rest of the year, Ryuichi Kiyonari has made the surprise switch back to the original WP suspension in time for Saturdays first qualifying session.

The original plan was for Kiyonari to run WP suspension at Donington and then make the transition to Ohlins during a two day test at Imola in two weeks time.

But on the strength of team-mates Jonathan Rea and Carlos Checa’s performances in Misano last weekend the team decided to implement the changes early.

However the decision appears to have back fired after last years race winner could only manage 23rd fastest in first qualifying on Friday.

Team manager Ronald Ten Kate said: “After Jonathan’s win in Misano we decided to put Kiyo on the Ohlins yesterday but with the conditions we had it made it very difficult for him. Now he is back on the WP equipment he knows.

He had a good race last year so there will be no more testing this weekend. We will make the switch to Ohlins as originally planned at the Imola test.”
