Cal Crutchlow: "I could have won it"

Cal Crutchlow and Eugene Laverty confirmed they will be title contenders in the World Supersport championship after finishing fourth and fifth, separated by 1/1000th of a second and just one second off the outright race win.

But they face seriously stiff championship competition from podium finishers Kenan Sofuoglu, Andrew Pitt and Anthony West, after a race that saw up to 15 riders battling for the win.

Speaking to MCN Crutchlow said: “I hit two false neutrals, but unfortunately they both came with three laps to go.

“I was definitely going to catch the leaders and without the neutrals I would have won the race.”

After two tough years fighting for points in 250GPs Laverty ran at the front, forced the pace and led for three consecutive laps first time out on the Parkalagar Honda.

He said: “I thought I had fourth, but I hit the gravel on the exit of the last turn and Cal just pipped me.”
