Parkalgar Honda man Eugene Laverty revealed that his Supersport machine feels slow in terms of corner speed compared to the Aprilia he rode in 250GP’s last year.

Whilst his Honda CBR600RR may have felt slow through the corners, top speed revealed that his Parkalgar Honda was the fastest through the speed trap recording an impressive 171.8mph before hitting the brakes for turn one.

Laverty ended the opening session in 14th place.

He said: “Going through the three fast rights at the end of the lap it felt slow compared to the 250. I didn’t know if it was just me but I got with Crutchlow and Sofuoglu and I was as quick as them. It’s just that on a 250 you’re really scratching through there.

“The track was pretty dirty this morning which meant the tyres weren’t really working. I went out on the hard tyre, but it was difficult to make any improvements to the setting because the grip isn’t there.

“Knowing this track it will be better this afternoon.”
