Leon Haslam unfazed by John Hopkins’ arrival

Leon Haslam has told MCN that he is unfazed by the arrival of high profile MotoGP star John Hopkins as his team-mate in the Stiggy Honda WSB squad.

Hopkins will race an identical Honda CBR1000RR alongside Haslam, starting at round three of the World Superbike championship at Valencia on April 5.

The 25-year-old Brit reckons he can deal with the added pressure of having the American in the same pit box.

Speaking to MCN, Haslam said: “For me, whether it’s Robby Rolfo or John Hopkins on the other side of the garage, we’ve got our own structure so I’m going to concentrate on what I need to do. It’s not going to affect me regardless of who my team-mate is. I’ve got my own plan.”

Haslam’s first objective will be to beat his new team-mate, but he is already tipping the Californian to be a contender in WSB.

“At the end of the day I know John, he’s a friend and he’s a big name. I think it’s exciting for the championship that he is here, there are already 20 top guys out there and for sure he’s going to be another one,” added Haslam.
