Slow start for Laverty and Crutchlow

Championship rivals Eugene Laverty and Cal Crutchlow, riding at Magny Cours for the first time, both made slow starts in this afternoons opening free practice session finishing down in seventh and ninth places respectively.

In a session that was plagued by crashes, Imola race winner Kenan Sofuoglu survived an early fall to top the time sheets with Kawasaki man Joan Lascorz in second also crashing.

Eugene Laverty ran as high as fourth, but dropped to seventh in the closing stages, while Crutchlow crashed his Yamaha R6 before returning to the track to improve his time.

Chaz Davies ended his first laps of the track in 14th place, with Triumph team-mate Garry McCoy in 10th spot.
