Shakey optimistic over Sterilgarda Ducati’s future

Shane Byrne remains optimistic, but is still waiting on confirmation that he will race in the final two rounds of the championship after rumours emerged last week that his Sterilgarda Ducati squad are struggling to find the necessary budget.

The well-run Italian team who signed Max Biaggi and Ruben Xaus in 2008 were forced to down size to one rider before the beginning of the 2009 season due to the financial crisis when Alessandro Polita was dropped from the line-up.

The squad’s financial situation has been compounded by title sponsor Sterilgarda joining the factory Yamaha team of Ben Spies and Tom Sykes where they are set to remain title sponsors in 2010.

Byrne also has next season to consider where he has the clear aim of securing a top ride in the WSB paddock.

Speaking to MCN, Byrne said:

“My manager is doing a lot of work behind the scenes. He’s had meetings with Davide Tardozzi who is keen to keep me in Ducati’s racing project and there are some other things in the pipeline. Right now I’m just concentrating on my riding and when my manager has some definite offers we’ll sit down and discuss them.”
