Jakub Smrz believes he is capable of springing some surprises on his factory rivals with a target of finishing top privateer in 2010.

Riding for the newly formed B&G team, a merger between Marco Borciani’s Sterilgarda Ducati squad and the Czech Mirco Guandalini Ducati team, Smrz will be looking to build upon his impressive 2009 season where he claimed one podium and tenth in the overall standings.

Smrz said: “This is a great opportunity for me. Both team managers have vast experience, which will be necessary to enable the new team to be at the top from the early races.

I am convinced that we will have the chance to do well at every track and we can be an outsider for some good results.”

The B&G team will stick with Ducati after coming close to running semi factory Aprilia’s this season.

The Italian factory was keen to have more RSV4’s on the grid but their high lease price prevented the deal from progressing.

Smrz will be the single rider in the team who have secured title sponsorship from PATA and Italian crisp manufacturer.
