Charpentier retired from WSS at the end of 2007 but continued racing in the World Endurance championship.

He said: “I have always wanted to return! I was just missing a challenge! And for me a challenge means winning.

“This season I’ll be racing with a Triumph Daytona in a top team with true professionals.

“For me it’s a great satisfaction, I’d like to thank everyone in Triumph and Giuliano Rovelli’s BE1 Racing team for making me an offer to race with them.

“After two years spent looking after talented youngsters and racing in World Endurance, I still feel ready, both physically and mentally, to tackle the Supersport championship.

“For me the Triumph is a war machine! I’ve always had an attraction for that bike.

“Now I’m ready to race it and work with my team to give the best of myself. I’m going to be with them this weekend at Portimao.”
