After signing for the Czech Intermoto Honda squad in World Supersport earlier this week, Gino Rea has told MCN that he is relishing the challenge of racing against the world’s best at Phillip Island.

Rea won the 2009 European Superstock championship after a gutsy season long campaign which has earned him a ride for one of the best non factory teams in the class with the well run Intermoto squad.

Rea completed testing on his Honda CBR600RR at Cartagena and will get another two days at Phillip Island before the opening race of the season on March 1st.

Speaking to MCN, Rea said: “Since the end of 2008 I’ve wanted to be in World Supersport.

“While I think the Superstock 1000 class is a good place to learn it’s not easy to go from there to WSB.

“I had some options in Moto2 and tested the FTR bike, but WSS is where I want to be and I’ve now got a good ride with a proven team.”

Rea’s participation in the World Championship boosts British interest even further. In WSB there are no less than seven Brits and in WSS Rea will join Irishman Eugene Laverty and Triumph rider Chaz Davies.
