MCN understands that Briton’s Chaz Davies and Italian Luca Scassa could swap their Triumph 675’s to race factory Yamaha R6’s in 2011 – the same bikes that that took Cal Crutchlow to the WSS crown in 2009.
The Italian BE1 team have been long time Triumph set-up and looked set to be serious title contenders in 2011 running factory supported 675’s but have now boosted their credentials of being series front runners even further having swapped to Yamaha.
Having run Triumph 675’s in the World Supersport class since 2007, the last minute deal will see BE1 Racing swap to the factory Yamaha R6’s that have been sat redundant since Crutchlow took the 2009 title.
During the 2009 season where Crutchlow had a year long battle with Parkalgar Honda rider Eugene Laverty the Yamaha became the benchmark in the class with fly by wire and WSB spec advanced electronics.
Despite theoretically being two years out of date the bikes should be more than competitive in 2011.
An official announcement confirming the new deal is expected this week.
