Gino Rea on stand by at Donington Park

Moto2 rider Gino Rea is at Donington Park this weekend on stand- by for the Kawasaki Supersport team. The 23 year old who is operating his own team at selected rounds of the Moto2 championship in 2013 running in the top 12 at Le Mans last weekend before a technical problem. His next Moto2 race is scheduled for Assen on 27th to 29th June.

As a result of not competing in every Moto2 race, Rea is an available and proven high quality rider perfectly placed to act as a stand in rider.

Speaking to MCN, Rea said: “I’m here with Kawasaki this weekend and we spoke about riding as a replacement for Fabien Foret who had a big crash at Monza, but he’s made a good recovery and he’s well placed in the championship so he’s doing everything to get out on track.”

Rea also revealed that he had been approached by the Grillini BMW squad about replacing Vittorio Iannuzzo at Donington after the Italian rider fell ill with a sickness bug, but his services were not needed after Iannuzzo made a recovery.
