German WSS: Lowes takes easy win as Sofuoglu falls

1 of 1

Sam Lowes took another step towards the 2013 World Supersport title today, stretching his title lead to 54 points as his main championship rival, former world champ Kenan Sofuoglu, fell while shading him down.

Lowes was third off the line, behind teammates Sofuoglu and Fabian Foret, but was able to pick both of them off on lap three to take the lead. he was then able to pull a gap out immediately, daring the Turk and Frenchman to chase him down.

However, Sofuoglu was unable to keep the pace of the championship leader, and crashed out on lap ten from second. Lowes was then able to clear off at the front, puling out four seconds in three laps, to eventually finish eleven seconds clear.

Kev Coughlan, after battling with Lorenzo Zanetti in the early stages of the race, was third, for his second podium in the class.

After the race, Lowes said: “I never like to win a race like that. Kenan was pushing hard, and even after the past few races I still like battling with him instead of having him crash. That’s racing, though, and we’ve got some valuable points. It’s been a great weekend.”
