1 of 2

Superpole king Tom Sykes has broken the absolute lap record of Misano on way to taking pole position for tomorrow’s WSB races at the Italian circuit, equalling Carl Fogarty’s 21 career pole positions in the process.

The first superbike rider to go under the 1:35 barrier, Sykes fastest lap of the session was a 1:34.883, blowing away Troy Corser’s old record of 1:35.008 as well as the second placed time of Davide Guigliano, who set a time of 1:35.079.

He was only a fraction of a second ahead of third placed Sylvain Guintoli, 0.027 back on the Italian on the Aprilia to close out the front row.

Loris Baz was fourth on the second of the factory Kawasakis, ahead of the Aprilia mounted duo of Marco Melandri and Tony Elias.

Chaz Davies headed an all-Brit third row, leading Jonathan Rea and Eugene Laverty, while Alex Lowes and Leon Haslam were 11th and 12th, separated from their fellow Brits by Niccolo Canepa.
