Monza World Superbike round cancelled

1 of 1

World Superbike shave confirmed that the round planned for Monza on the 22-24 July this year has been cancelled, after planned upgrades to the track were unable to be completed in time.

However, in a bizarre move, the championship will not activate their contingency plan of racing at the Vallelunga circuit – as that track too has not had necessary improvement works completed in time.

The track signed up as World Superbikes’ back-up plan two years ago after the series lost a round thanks to political instability in Russia, but has never been needed until now.

However, WSBK have confirmed that they will name a replacement track before the 1st May, and rumours continue to circulate that the championship will return to Portugal – but not Portimao, instead heading to the former home of the Portuguese Grand Prix at Estoril.
