WSB Rider of the Year: 5th - Alex Lowes

1 of 1

After another epic season of racing, MCN’s sports team of Michael Guy (Sports Editor), Simon Patterson (MotoGP Reporter) and Oli Rushby (Superbike Reporter) sat down to discuss who impressed them the most in each race series we cover to establish MCN’s top five riders in each category. Here’s World Superbikes…

5th – Alex Lowes

Alex Lowes showed remarkable improvement in 2017 to secure his best ever finish in the Superbike World Championship.

Prior to this year, Lowes’ best season result had been 10th back in 2015, but he ramped it up this year to finish fifth overall after a significant improvement in consistency.

Failing to finish just four races, Lowes finished on the podium more times in 2017 than he had in his entire Superbike career before that.

It wasn’t just consistency that improved for Lowes, an improved Yamaha package saw him fight closer and closer to the front as the season went on, taking two podium finishes, including a second place in Magny Cours, in the final three rounds.
