WorldSBK: Tarran Mackenzie departs Petronas MIE Honda

Tarran Mackenzie and Petronas MIE Honda have gone their separate ways ahead of round seven of the 2025 World Superbike Championship at Donington Park.

Mackenzie first joined Midori Moriwaki’s team in 2023 whilst competing in the World Supersport Championship. The 2021 Bennetts British Superbike Champion won at Most in mixed conditions, but a difficult campaign overall saw him finish 18th overall.

Mackenzie was promoted into the superbike class in 2024 but has suffered a rough time of things in the premier class. The Brit finished 23rd overall last year with a best result of 11th at Assen, whilst his best finish so far in 2025 was ninth at Assen. He departs the privateer team with nine points to his name this season.

Firstly, I want to thank Midori, Sandro and the entire PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda Team,” Mackenzie said. “Although it’s been difficult at times, there have been many positives, including the Supersport win at Most – the team’s first ever race win – and Assen this year, where I finished top ten and scored points in every race.

“I am very grateful to Midori, who gave me a big opportunity to come to this paddock. I always strived to give 100% and put in maximum effort, but perhaps a new outlook can bring value to both the team and my own journey as a rider. It is sad that we are parting ways, but we have many happy memories, and I, of course, wish the team the best of luck for the rest of the season.”

Mackenzie will inevitably now be linked with a return to BSB, especially as there is a seat available at Hager PBM Ducati following Glenn Irwin’s crash at Snetterton which has ruled the Northern Irishman out of action for the foreseeable future.

Mackenzie has only ever competed on Yamaha machinery in BSB, celebrating 16 victories and 27 further podiums in blue. He won the 2021 title for Raceways Racing Yamaha (known then as McAMS Yamaha) after a season-long fight with teammate Jason O’Halloran.

Round four of the 2025 BSB season takes place at Knockhill next weekend (July 4-6), whilst WorldSBK heads to Donington Park on July 11-13.
