Dixon's delight! Jake Dixon claims stunning maiden Moto2 victory in Assen... and the timing is perfect!

For weeks, Jake Dixon has been promising the best is yet to come, and on Sunday he delivered on that and more at Assen, taking his maiden Moto2 victory in some style before declaring: “I’m only going to get stronger.”

The 27-year-old couldn’t contain his emotion after celebrating victory in parc fermé. Not even hitting a neutral when leading could deny him, as he reeled in long-time leader Ai Ogura to force a race winning overtake with two laps to go.

All weekend in the Netherlands, Dixon was the reference in the class. A formidable 14-lap run in P3 on Saturday morning showed his rhythm and consistency was superior to anyone else on the grid. And even if Alonso Lopez pipped him to pole that afternoon, Dixon was being spoken of as the pre-race favourite going into race day.

But knowing he had the speed, brought with it extra pressure.
