Daytona 660 inbound? New Triumph model teased on social media ahead of January 2024 reveal

Following spyshots shared with MCN back in August 2023, Triumph now look set to reveal a Daytona 660 soft sportsbike model on Tuesday, 9 January.

Announced via a surprise teaser image on social media showing a blacked out sportsbike silhouette with a pair of LED headlights, the mystery machine is due to be launched at 12 noon GMT that day.

Although there’s no official confirmation on what the new model will be, the photographs previously seen by MCN appeared to show a faired Daytona model based on the existing Trident 660 and Tiger Sport 660 platform, using the same three-cylinder 660cc engine. This argument is strengthened by a landing page on Triumph’s website showing ‘660’ in large font across the background.

Unlike the Daytonas that have come before it, it’s set to be a comfortable take on the sportsbike scene – designed for everyday riding and likely to rival machines including Honda’s CBR650R, the Yamaha R7, and Suzuki’s latest GSX-8R parallel twin.

Looking back at the photos seen in August also reveals the prototype featured an identical left-hand engine cover, alongside matching exhaust collector box, swingarm, and front end.

As such it’s likely to be a 660cc triple producing in the region of 80bhp. There will likely be fresh bodywork comprising a full sports fairing with overtones of the now defunct Daytona 675. You’ll also find new side panels and seat unit plus new tank – as the Trident’s more bulbous design could interfere with the sportsbike’s steering lock.

Due to the Trident 660 underpinnings, we also expect the new Daytona to share that bike’s fairly rudimentary electronics (two rider modes, switchable traction control), non-adjustable Showa 41mm inverted forks and preload-adjustable rear monoshock, plus dual Nissin twin piston brakes.

Triumph were not prepared to comment at the time the images were taken, with all eyes now on the January reveal.
