The Classics have been an important part of the Enfield range since their introduction in 2008 and their absence will have been sorely missed. The new model comes hot on the heels of the Meteor 350, sharing quite a few components with the well-received little cruiser.

For a start the Classic gains the new air and oil cooled 349cc from the Meteor, which creates 20.2bhp @ 6100rpm and 20ftlb of torque at 4000rpm. The new engine is also mated to a new five-speed gearbox, for better cruising, while the new engine also gets a proper primary balancer, for less bruising.

Most important of all though, despite the onslaught of emissions controls, the Royal Enfield Classic 350 retains its well loved ‘thump’ from the exhaust.

Like all new Enfields, the Classic has been a cross-continent effort with the team in the UK designing a brand new chassis to hold the new motor. Stiffer, lighter and generally better (if the Meteor is anything to go by) the new Classic ought to be an all together much more confidence-inspiring thing.

As well as a new chassis there’s also revised suspension and improved braking, with a dual-channel Bosch ABS for us Brits.

If all this sounds like it could tempt you to spend more time in the saddle of a Classic you’re in luck as new handlebars and plusher seats for both rider and passenger should improve ergonomics considerably.

Just like the Meteor there’s also a new analog/digital combined instrument cluster and a USB charging port beneath the bars.

The Royal Enfield Classic 350 UK price is £4439 and it is available to order now.
