BSB: Shakey shatters outright lap record to take pole at Oulton Park

Shane Byrne will start this afternoon’s first British Superbike race from pole position after a thrilling qualifying session. The championship leader set the fastest ever two-wheeled lap of Oulton Park Circuit,with a time of 1’33.933.

The top six were all running under the existing lap record and following the Be Wiser Ducati rider home was the sole Suzuki of Tommy Bridewell, who was 0.137 seconds off the pace. Rounding out the front row is JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider Leon Haslam, who lies second in the championship.

Making up the second row is Honda’s Jason O’Halloran and the Kawasakis of Mossey and Ellison. Hickman, Cooper and Hopkins make up the third row. All nine were split by just under 0.8 seconds.    

Showdown contenders Dan Linfoot, Christian Iddon and Michael Laverty all went out during Q2, Linfoot missing out by just 0.041 seconds to Hopkins in the dying seconds of the session.

Laverty came home in eleventh just 0.008 seconds behind him. The second Tyco bike of Christian Iddon ended Q2 in thirteenth place behind Be Wiser Ducati rider Glenn Irwin.
