Enduro racers will be doing battle in the heart of Newcastle this summer at the first ever Red Bull Tyne Ride.

Offering a fresh spin on extreme enduro, the event is an urban head-to-head race taking place from midday on Saturday 3 August at Newcastle’s Quayside.

The never-before-seen event is largely the conceptual brainchild of four-time SuperEnduro World Champion, Billy Bolt.

A local lad himself, Bolt worked in collaboration with fellow athletes Dougie Lampkin and Jonny Walker to design the challenging course which Red Bull say, “takes inspiration from motocross, enduro, mountain biking, BMX, and the wider world of action sports.”

Bolt commented: “I’ve been working on the Red Bull Tyne Ride concept for a few years now with Red Bull, and I’m absolutely buzzing to bring this head-to-head race to my hometown this summer. The course is insane, it’s hugely creative in track design, with features inspired by different action sports – it’s really going to challenge the competitors. Usually our races are inaccessible, so to be in the city centre is going to be amazing.”

Hard Enduro events are usually in hard to reach locations making them difficult to attend for spectators

Some of the world’s best riders are said to competing in the event, which will pitch 14 professionals and eight wild card contenders against three rounds of action, before a final head-to-head decider will establish the winner.

Spectating is totally free, just show up and enjoy the day’s racing.
