BMW S1000RR group test: "An exciting and surprising bike"

1 of 1

MCN’s Chief Road Tester Trevor Franklin is in the South of France pitting the new BMW S1000RR against the Honda Fireblade, Kawasaki ZX-10R, Suzuki GSX-R1000 and Yamaha R1.

He has just phoned in his end of day report:

“We’ve just done 200 miles on the Route Napoleon near Cannes in the South of France and it’s clear that out of the crate the BMW S1000RR is an exciting and surprising bike.

“As a package it’s almost complete and is right at the front of the 1000cc pack.

“But the R1 is incredible down these roads where you’re continually firing from one corner to the next – it’s all about corner drive and the R1 has it by the lorry load.

“We’re just about to ride back to the hotel to discuss our overall verdicts but I have a feeling it’s going to be very, very close.”
