Steve McQueen bike sells for more than £55,000

Movie legend Steve McQueen’s old Triumph Bonneville Desert Sled has sold for £55,761 at auction in California, while his racing licence raised £28,232.

The 1963 Bud Ekins modified bike and FIM licence were two of the highlights of the Bonhams and Butterfields sale, which also featured a collection of Rollie Free memorabilia, and an ultra-rare 1950 Vincent Series C White Shadow which raised £73,505.

The Rollie Free memorabilia, which included photographs of his renowned 1950 record-breaking bathing-suit clad ride on his modified Vincent HRD did not sell, neither did the Deco Scoot and Liner – a one-off modified Harley-Davidson Sportster which fits in to a 1939 Lincoln Zephyr Sedan delivery, which was expected to raise £132,117.
