Robbery rocks CCM motocross team

Eight works motocross machines plus a large quantity of spares and tools were stolen when the race workshop of CCM Racing was broken into this week.

Thieves struck at the base in Bracknell on Tuesday evening (June 14) using oxy acetylene equipment to cut through barriers and steel shutters. The alarm system was immobilized and a team transporter that was parked up against the entrance doors to prevent ram raids was moved.

In total eight bikes, as campaigned by CCM riders Stephen Sword, Tom Church and Martin Cremmers were stolen along with mechanics tool boxes and other equipment.

Two of the stolen bikes were race machines and two more were brand new Yamaha YZ450Fs that had just arrived from the USA in readiness to be stripped for the donor engines that CCM use in their bikes. The two Yamahas chassis numbers are 14 and 18.

According to the CCTV footage eight thieves turned up in full MX gear with helmets and rode the bikes off across the fields to waiting vans. The police are currently investigating a spate of similar break-ins in the area.

CCM’s Russell Clews told MCN: “Although the theft will put a serious dent in CCM’s ability to be ready for the next round of the British Maxxis at Desert Martin, everyone is determined to pull out all the stops to be on the start line with Stephen Sword and Martin Cremmers. However CCM’s planned replacement for Tom Church (who has retired from fulltime pro-riding as a result of his shoulder injury) is now in serious doubt as the factory machinery for both testing and race purposes is simply not there anymore. We just can’t build new frames in time, it’s about a six week process to machine new billeted frames.”

And he added: “If anyone has any information leading to the recovery of these CCM’s there will be a reward offered. The exact specification including serial numbers will be posted soon along with the reward amount and if anyone is offered one of these rare CCM’s please contact CCM direct on 01204 544930 or your local police station.”
